Email notifications
HIVE emails you when something happens in your workspace that you would otherwise have to go looking for: a post that didn’t publish, a connected account that stopped working, a card you were made owner of. Settings → Notifications is where you choose which of those you want.
What you can turn on and off
Section titled “What you can turn on and off”Everything is on by default, so you don’t have to set anything up to start receiving these.
- My posts that fail to publish - a post you created did not reach its platform.
- Any post that fails to publish - any post in the workspace did not reach its platform. If a post of your own fails you get the first one for it, not both. If one of your posts and a colleague’s both fail, you get one email for each.
A post-failure email doesn’t always arrive straight away. HIVE sends a YouTube video in the background, so if YouTube can’t take it, the email comes when that’s known, which can be hours later. The same goes for any platform that fails after the composer has said the post is being published. A failure the composer shows you straight away isn’t emailed as well.
Connected accounts
Section titled “Connected accounts”- A connected account stops working - HIVE can no longer confirm access to a platform account, so publishing and analytics for it have stopped until an admin reconnects it. Everyone in the workspace gets this one, because it affects everyone’s scheduled posts and reporting.
Communication cards
Section titled “Communication cards”- Cards assigned to me - someone made you the owner of a communication card.
- Cards I am added to - someone added you as a collaborator on a card.
Team and roles
Section titled “Team and roles”These three are for admins, and they only appear in your Settings if you are one.
- Someone joins the workspace
- Someone leaves the workspace
- Someone changes a role
Changing a setting
Section titled “Changing a setting”-
Open Settings from your profile menu (top-right).
-
Go to the Notifications tab.
-
Use the switch beside any row.
Changes save on their own - there is no Save button. A short Saving label appears while a change is being stored, and if a change can’t be saved you get a message and the switch goes back to what it was.
The switches stay hidden for a moment while your settings load. That’s deliberate: it stops a switch being read at the wrong value before your own choice has arrived.
What these emails say, and what they leave out
Section titled “What these emails say, and what they leave out”HIVE keeps these emails short on purpose, and there are two things they will never include.
No names. The three team emails tell you that someone joined, left, or had their role changed, and not who. That detail is a colleague’s personal information, and an email carries it into your mailbox and our email provider’s logs and keeps it there. Team & Roles in Settings shows you exactly who and with what role, up to date rather than as of whenever the email was sent - which is the better answer anyway, since a role can change again before you read it.
No failure reasons. A post-failure email names the post and the platform, not why the platform refused it. Reasons come back from the platforms in wildly different shapes and some send nothing useful at all, so a reason would be present for some platforms and missing for others, and a missing one reads as “we have no idea”. Open Posts to see what happened.
Emails you can’t turn off
Section titled “Emails you can’t turn off”Some emails are not part of this page and are always sent:
- Sign-in codes and password resets. Turning these off would lock you out of your own account.
- Account setup links, sent when someone is added to a workspace.
- Replies to a support ticket you opened.
- Answers to a post you sent for approval - HIVE emails you when an approver approves your post or sends it back. See The emails you get.
Every email you can turn off on this page ends with Don’t want to receive these? and an Adjust your notification settings link, which opens the Notifications tab in HIVE so you can change your mind without going looking for it. The emails in the list above don’t carry that link, because there is no setting for them.
