Connect Mailchimp

HIVE connects to Mailchimp so you can see how your email marketing is performing - your audience size, campaign opens and clicks, and more - alongside your other channels in HIVE. It’s a read-only connection: HIVE reads your Mailchimp stats and shows them to you. It doesn’t send campaigns, or create or change your audiences, lists, or contacts.

Before you start: what you need

1. A Mailchimp account.
2. You’re a HIVE admin. Only admins can connect a platform (see below).

Sign in with a Mailchimp login that has full access

Mailchimp doesn’t ask you to pick specific permissions when you connect - HIVE sees whatever the Mailchimp user you sign in with can see. Connect with a login that has full access to your Mailchimp account, so all your stats come through. A very limited Mailchimp user’s access can lead to errors or missing data.

Only HIVE admins can connect

Connecting, reconnecting, and disconnecting are admin-only. If you don’t see a + button on the Mailchimp card, you’re not an admin - ask one of your admins to connect it (you can find them in Settings → Team & Roles).

Once it’s connected, anyone on your team can view the Mailchimp stats on the Analytics page.

Connect Mailchimp, step by step

1. Open your profile menu (top-right) and choose Connect Platforms.

2. Scroll to the Other section and find the Mailchimp card.

3. Select the + button in the card’s corner. Mailchimp allows one connected account - if it’s already connected, the + is greyed out.

4. A window opens on Mailchimp. Sign in and approve the access HIVE asks for.

5. You’re brought back to HIVE, and Mailchimp shows as connected on the Connect Platforms page.

What to expect during connection

• You sign in on Mailchimp. The sign-in screen and the screen listing HIVE’s access are Mailchimp’s own - HIVE never sees or stores your Mailchimp password.
• You approve read-only access. HIVE reads your account details, audiences, and campaign stats. It doesn’t send campaigns or change anything in Mailchimp.
• No extra picking step. There’s nothing to choose after you approve - your Mailchimp account connects straight away.

What you get once connected

HIVE shows:

• Your account details - account name, total subscribers, and the date you’ve been a member since.
• Campaign engagement - opens and clicks over time, plus a table of your sent campaigns with open, click, and unsubscribe rates.
• Audience Growth - your subscriber count is tracked over time and feeds the Audience Growth view.

These appear on the Analytics page, in the Mailchimp Analytics card, and are included when you export your analytics. A dedicated Analytics guide covers how to read them.

Good to know

• Analytics cover about the last 180 days. Mailchimp activity older than roughly 180 days isn’t shown. If you pick a longer date range, HIVE notes this: “Activity history limited to the past 180 days.”
• Mailchimp isn’t part of the cross-platform comparison. It’s shown in its own Mailchimp Analytics card, not blended into the Social Channel Performance comparison alongside your social platforms. That’s by design.

If it doesn’t work

Most problems are one of these

• “No Mailchimp account connected.” on the Analytics page - no Mailchimp account is connected yet. Connect it from the Connect Platforms page (an admin needs to do this).
• “No Mailchimp analytics available.” - Mailchimp is connected but HIVE couldn’t load its stats. This can happen just after connecting, or when the Mailchimp login used has very limited access - reconnect with a full-access Mailchimp login (see Re-authenticate Account below).
• No + button on the Mailchimp card - you’re signed in to HIVE as a non-admin. Ask an admin to connect it (see Settings → Team & Roles).
• The + button is greyed out - Mailchimp allows one connected account and it’s already connected. Disconnect the existing one first if you need to connect a different account.

Disconnect or reconnect

• Disconnect: on the Connect Platforms page, select your connected Mailchimp account, choose Disconnect Account, and confirm. It’s removed from HIVE and you can reconnect it later. (Admins only.)
• Reconnect or refresh: connect again with the + button, or use Re-authenticate Account on the connected account to refresh its access.
