Announcements
Announcements are how you plan your internal communications: a simple editorial calendar of what’s going out to your team and when, organised by channel. It’s planning only - announcements live in HIVE and aren’t emailed anywhere.
One feature, several names
Section titled “One feature, several names”The same item shows up under a few different labels in the app - they’re all the same thing:
- An announcement and a calendar event are the same item.
- New Announcement (on the list) and Add Event / New (on the dashboard) both create one.
- The calendar, the 7 Day Overview card, and the All Announcements list are three views of the same announcements.
So don’t be thrown by seeing “event” in one place and “announcement” in another - it’s one feature.
Where you’ll see them
Section titled “Where you’ll see them”Everything lives in the Internal area, and the same announcements appear in three places:
- The calendar - the large Year / Week / Month / List planner on the Internal dashboard.
- The 7 Day Overview card - a short list of the next seven days.
- The All Announcements list - the full list of every announcement.
Channels
Section titled “Channels”Every announcement belongs to a channel (its Category), so you can plan each strand of internal comms separately:
- Leadership Communications
- Company Updates
- People & Culture
- HR & Compliance
- Change & Transformation
- Events
- Strategic Briefs
Custom calendar rows
Section titled “Custom calendar rows”Beyond the built-in Category channels above, an admin can add your own custom rows to the calendar’s Year grid - extra labelled lanes for whatever strands of internal comms you plan.
Open Manage rows (the gear on the calendar) to:
- Add a row - give it a title (up to 40 characters), an icon, and a colour. Up to 20 custom rows.
- Edit or delete a row. Deleting one keeps its events on the Week, Month, and List views, but they drop off the Year grid until you move them to another row.
Built-in rows can’t be changed, and a custom row can’t reuse a built-in name. Managing rows is admin-only; everyone still sees the rows on the calendar.
Custom rows also appear in the Category list when you create or edit an announcement, so you can file announcements onto them.
Create an announcement
Section titled “Create an announcement”Start from either surface - both make the same item:
- On the All Announcements list, choose New Announcement.
- On the dashboard, use Add Event (calendar) or New (on the 7 Day Overview card).
Then fill in:
- Title - the headline.
- Category - the channel: one of the built-ins above, or any custom row your admin has added.
- Status Color - where it sits in your workflow (see below).
- Strategic brief and KPIs - link a brief and one or more KPI goals, using the same pickers as a Planning card.
- Date - an all-day entry or a timed event, and it can span multiple days. An all-day entry shows All day rather than a start time.
- Details - any extra context.
Save with Create and you’ll see “Announcement created” (the dialog is titled Create New Announcement from the list, or Create New Internal Event from the dashboard - same item either way). Editing an existing one shows Update and “Announcement updated”.
Status colours
Section titled “Status colours”The Status Color is a quick read of where an announcement is in your workflow. The same colours show on the calendar and in the lists, so you can see status at a glance:
| Colour | Status |
|---|---|
| Grey | Idea |
| Blue | Drafting |
| Yellow | Needs review |
| Purple | Scheduled |
| Green | Live |
The same five statuses appear as a legend below the header on every view - Year, Week, Month, and List - so you can read the colours without leaving the calendar.
Edit or delete
Section titled “Edit or delete”Clicking an announcement opens a read-only card with Edit and Delete on it, so you can read the detail without opening the editor. The card shows the title, status, type, linked brief (with its quarter and year), KPIs, dates, and description; a KPI that has since been archived is still listed, greyed with (archived).
Deleting asks you to confirm - “This action cannot be undone.” - before it’s removed.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Announcements are internal planning only - they stay in HIVE, and are not sent as email or to your employee list. For sending to people, that’s what Newsletters, Surveys, and the Document hub are for.
- Communication cards from Planning can appear on this calendar too - see Show a card on the calendar.
- See the Internal overview for the rest of the Internal area.
