Connect Google Analytics
HIVE connects to Google Analytics so you can see how your website is performing - page views, users, and more - alongside your other channels in HIVE. It’s a read-only connection: HIVE reads your Google Analytics 4 (GA4) stats and shows them to you. It never changes anything in your Google Analytics.
Before you start: what you need
Section titled “Before you start: what you need”- A Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property. HIVE reads GA4 website stats.
- A Google account that can see that property. You’ll sign in with Google during the connection, and HIVE shows the properties that account has access to.
- You’re a HIVE admin. Only admins can connect a platform (see below).
Connect Google Analytics, step by step
Section titled “Connect Google Analytics, step by step”-
Open your profile menu (top-right) and choose Connect Platforms.
-
Scroll to the Other section and find the Google Analytics card.
-
Select the + button in the card’s corner. HIVE allows one connected Google Analytics account - if it’s already connected, the + is greyed out.
-
A window opens on Google. Sign in and approve the read-only access HIVE asks for.
-
You’re brought back to HIVE, and Google Analytics shows as connected on the Connect Platforms page.
What to expect during connection
Section titled “What to expect during connection”- You sign in with Google. The sign-in screen and the screen listing HIVE’s access are Google’s own - HIVE never sees or stores your Google password.
- You approve read-only access. This lets HIVE list the GA4 properties your Google account can see and read their stats. HIVE can’t change anything in Google Analytics.
- Your property is picked for you - and you can switch. There’s nothing to type. On the Analytics page, the Web tab opens on one of the GA4 properties your account can access; use the Project: selector to switch to another, and HIVE remembers your choice. You never enter a property or measurement ID by hand.
What you get once connected
Section titled “What you get once connected”On the Analytics page, open the Web tab and check the Project: selector is on the property you want. HIVE shows a full GA4 report for the date range you choose:
- Ten headline figures - active users, new users, sessions, engaged sessions, engagement rate, average engagement time, bounce rate, views, views per user, and key events.
- Trend charts - page views and users over time, and sessions over time.
- Geography - top countries and top cities.
- Audience demographics - age and gender. These need Google Signals enabled on the property, and Google withholds small numbers to protect privacy.
- Technology - device category, operating system, and browser.
- Acquisition - channels and top sources.
- Top pages and landing pages, plus a new vs returning split.
It’s all read-only, and it’s included when you export the Web tab. The Analytics guide covers how to read each part.
If it doesn’t work
Section titled “If it doesn’t work”Disconnect or reconnect
Section titled “Disconnect or reconnect”- Disconnect: on the Connect Platforms page, select your connected Google Analytics account, choose Disconnect Account, and confirm. It’s removed from HIVE and you can reconnect it later. (Admins only.)
- Reconnect or refresh: connect again with the + button, or use Re-authenticate Account on the connected account to refresh its access.
